It is late in the evening. In fact it is already almost midnight. Here I am tapping away on my keyboard, trying to ensure I get this post out tonight as targeted. This drive to do it is part of what, I think defines an entrepreneur. Now, I am not saying that I have got all the characteritics, as I am a work in progress. I am sure however that I have a fair few.
When I looked up the definition of an entrepreneur in our favourite search engines, I got this – “a person who sets up a business or businesses, taking on financial risks in the hope of profit.” (https://en.oxforddictionaries.com/definition/entrepreneur).
Well the basic definition fits but perhaps what they should have added is that
they work long hours and still find a way to smile. Dare I say they even enjoy it.
They are passionate about what they are doing
They fail often but keep going, hopefully having learnt from their mistakes.
They are highly focused, to the point of almost being obsessive.
They can bear the fact that sometimes there will be plenty of money and at others almost none.
First to pay everyone, last to be paid.
They know how to source for funds as money is often needed for the various projects
They must have strong stomachs and like rollercoaster rides, as the journey of an entrepreneur is filled with peaks and troughs.
A definite requirement are nerves of steel in the face of the many unexpected challenges they will encounter.
They like to provide solutions.
They usually have a bigger goal in mind that will impact or change their environment.
They believe they will do whatever they can envision, whilst the world around them thinks they are pretty crazy.
Does any of this sound familiar to you? It does to me. This is my expanded definition of what an entrepreneur looks like from my view. I think I might actually be headed in the right direction. What about you?
Thanks for reading.
